Product, dosage and storage

A perennial plant with soft, earthy rhizomes, liquorice (also called Sweet Pea or Tanner's Herb) thrives mainly in rich, moist soils in warm countries. Its roots are harvested manually, outside the rainy season, then left to dry in the sun of the growing regions. Sorted and packaged near the harvest sites and then transported by boat, the liquorice roots are then transported to our factory in Coublevie in Isère (38).
It will then take several days of work and patience for the little concentrate as you know it to see the light of day! After rigorous quality control, the liquorice roots are crushed and stored in huge macerators, where the raw material will gradually refine. We obtain a concentrated juice that will be decanted, filtered and flavored with essential oils, before being bottled directly on site. Each year to produce its ultra-concentrates, Antésite processes 300 tons of liquorice rhizomes, the equivalent in weight of around 70 elephants!

The presence of a small oily or white film on the surface, or a slight deposit at the bottom of the bottle, is linked to the plant constituents of the product and does not alter its taste or use in any way. Simply shake the bottle before using it!

The BBD (best before date) of our products is always indicated on the cap. If you can no longer read this information, or if the bottle has not been stored under normal conditions, we ask you not to consume the product.

Our ultra-concentrated liquorice products should be stored in a cupboard, in their original packaging, away from light and heat, because liquorice is naturally bactericidal. Storing them in the fridge would not pose any danger, strictly speaking, but would simply risk crystallizing the essential oils used in the composition of Antésite licorice.
Our fruit, tea or hibiscus concentrates must be kept in the refrigerator after opening, in the original packaging.

Antésite offers two types of preparations to dilute. Of course, there are its iconic ultra-concentrates based on liquorice; they are called ultra-concentrates because about 15 drops are enough to flavor a 20 cl glass. You can therefore flavor up to 220 glasses of drink with a single 13 cl bottle of our ultra-concentrates Antésite Réglisse!
Our Hibiscus and Tea concentrates, on the other hand, have different compositions and are by nature less concentrated than their big sister liquorice – but much more so than traditional syrups. You need one teaspoon of BIO Tea or Hibiscus concentrate to flavour a glass of water; it is therefore possible to obtain 32 flavoured glasses with a single 13 cl bottle.

We offer two types of drink mixes, with different dilution rates. Here is a comparison table, to see things a little more clearly 🙂
See the table

Our drinks are not certified VEGAN, but we guarantee the absence of ingredients of animal origin.

There are several ways to enjoy your Antésite, whatever its flavor:
● Like a syrup, in very cold water
● As a herbal tea, in hot water
● In savory or sweet recipes
● In cocktails or non-alcoholic mocktails!

Let's talk health

The products in the Antésite ultra-concentrated range contain glycyrrhizin at a rate of 3 g per 13 cl bottle, each bottle being able to flavour up to 200 20 cl glasses (i.e. 15 mg/glass). In Europe, the maximum admissible daily dose of this active ingredient has been set at 100 mg/day by the Scientific Committee on Food. This is therefore well beyond what is contained in a glass of Antésite!
Although its virtues are numerous, it is important to note that licorice, in all its forms, should be consumed in moderation (less than 7 glasses per day) and that it is not recommended for people suffering from high blood pressure, kidney failure, hypertonia, potassium deficiency, liver cirrhosis or hepatic cholestasis. Similarly, consuming drinks that are too rich in sugar, whether or not they contain caffeine, can cause high blood pressure and/or promote weight gain.
In order to meet all thirsts and needs and to vary the pleasures, we have created organic concentrates based on hibiscus or tea, without liquorice, without added sugars or sweeteners, and low in calories. Discover now on our online store 🙂

Antésite ultra-concentrates based on liquorice get their naturally sweet taste from the root of this plant, whose sweetening power is 50 times greater than cane sugar. No other sugar is added in the recipe of our ultra-concentrates!
Antésite concentrates based on fruits, tea and hibiscus, are naturally sweetened by the sugar of the organic fruits used in their composition. You can find all the nutritional information on each of our product sheets, in the online store area.

First of all, we would like to congratulate you 🙂 ! Antésite concentrates are made from plant macerations, natural aromas and, in the case of our ultra-concentrates based on liquorice, essential oils.
There is no precise consensus but as a precaution, it is advisable not to use essential oils orally during the entire pregnancy. You can therefore quench your thirst with our hibiscus concentrates, tea (which do not contain any) or even fruit… and wait patiently for the baby to arrive to quench your thirst again with our ultra-concentrated liquorice!

Antésite concentrates are made from plant macerations, plant extracts and essential oils, particularly grapefruit in some of our recipes, the full details of which can be found in each product sheet, on our online store.
People undergoing specific treatments (antibiotics, anticancer drugs, heart treatments or even schizophrenia treatments, etc.) should generally avoid consuming grapefruit-based foods or drinks, which could make their treatment less effective.

Other questions

Antésite is a natural, ultra-concentrated drink with zero sugar, made from licorice extract or plants, for the concentrated version. It is known for its refreshing and thirst-quenching properties, as it contains absolutely no sugar (and therefore no addiction). Zero calories, with no sweeteners or colorings, it allows you to flavor water in a healthy and economical way, while helping you stay hydrated on a daily basis.

Antésite contains licorice extract, which can potentially cause adverse effects if consumed in excess, including high blood pressure. These effects are linked to glycyrrhizin, a natural compound found in licorice.

  • ANSES recommends not exceeding 6 to 7 glasses per day (diluted according to the doses
    recommended).
  • Pregnant women, as well as people suffering from high blood pressure or heart problems, should avoid licorice-based products. In this case, opt for our licorice-free Antésite concentrates, which offer a healthy alternative, still without added sugar, but without the contraindications associated with licorice!

Antésite is particularly suitable for people with diabetes, as it has three key benefits:

Zero sugar : Antésite contains no added or hidden sugars. Unlike many flavored drinks or syrups, it does not affect blood sugar levels. Therefore, there is no risk of hyperglycemia after consumption.

Zero calories : Antésite is extremely concentrated: just a few drops are enough to flavor a glass or bottle of water. The result: 0 calories per serving, making it a healthy alternative to conventional sodas, fruit juices, or syrups, even "sugar-free" ones.

No artificial sweeteners : Unlike some "diet" drinks, Antésite contains no aspartame, sucralose, or stevia. It is therefore naturally flavored, which avoids the side effects or artificial taste often criticized in "diabetic" products.

In conclusion, Antésite allows diabetics to drink more water with pleasure, without sugar, calories, or chemical sweeteners. It can also be used in cooking and cocktails!

Some important points to know :

• Antésite contains licorice extract, a natural ingredient which, if consumed in excess, may cause an increase in blood pressure in certain sensitive individuals.

• For this reason, it is advisable to respect the doses recommended by ANSES: a few drops per glass, up to 6 to 7 glasses per day maximum.

• Pregnant women and people suffering from hypertension or cardiovascular problems should choose concentrates without licorice .

• No toxic effects have been demonstrated, provided the product is used within the recommended usage limits.

Antésite is a safe and natural product, to be consumed in moderation, like any concentrated food. If in doubt, do not hesitate to consult your doctor or a healthcare professional.

For more information, you can also consult our “Let’s talk about health” section.

Licorice contains a natural compound called glycyrrhizin , which can affect blood pressure. In people with high blood pressure, this may be an adverse effect, as licorice can raise blood pressure.

What about people with low blood pressure?

For those suffering from low blood pressure, licorice can sometimes act as a natural stimulant , helping to slightly increase blood pressure. It can therefore help improve vitality and reduce the feeling of fatigue associated with low blood pressure. This can therefore be seen as a beneficial effect in everyday life.

Important precautions :

This "booster" effect remains moderate and does not replace medical treatment in any way . It is recommended to consume Antésite in moderation.

In case of severe hypotension or specific treatment, it is recommended to consult a health professional before using licorice for therapeutic purposes.

For sensitive or fragile people, the licorice-free version of Antésite may be preferable.
